Features Overview

Bombardier’s Challenger 604 and 605 are long-range, heavy business jets that can handle your long-leg coast-to-coast or international trips with speed, efficiency, sophistication, and comfort—and no stops in between. Both jets feature some of the largest cabin space and most luxurious amenities in their field, allowing passengers to make the most of their time in the air.

The 604 was introduced in 1995 as a continuation of the successful Challenger line, improving upon the design of the Challenger 601 and adding upgraded avionics. The Challenger 605, which began production in 2006, boasts many of the same features that made its predecessor successful while adding a number of improvements in style, comfort, and technology as well as cost efficiency. Bombardier utilized customer feedback while designing the 605, building on the flight experience of the 604 with new innovations in technology and luxury.

Avionics

On the Challenger 604, A Rockwell Collins Pro Line 4 avionics system give pilots information and data across six screens. Turbulence detection radar, autopilot systems, and high frequency radios are just some of the features that pilots can easily maneuver. The 605 saw an upgrade to the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21, with fewer control panels and less weight. The system features a four-screen display with 55% more area, as well as an improved pilot interface.

Interior

The Challenger 604 has some of the widest cabin space for a long-range business jet at over 8 feet, matched with generous standing room of over 6 feet. Conference groupings of four seats allow passengers to focus primarily on business in one of the quietest cabins in the industry. The rear living area can be used for work or rest, with a half–club section sitting opposite a divan meant for extra seating or lounging. Two display monitors, a DVD system, a full lavatory, and a deluxe galley are found on either end of the jet as well.

The 605 retains the 604’s spacious cabin, which has been re-styled with larger, higher-positioned windows, giving passengers an improved view. In addition, the 605 adds larger video monitors, sturdier work tables, an Ethernet-based management system, galley improvements, and additional LED lighting.  

The 604 features 1146 cubic feet of cabin volume, and the 605 features 1150 cubic feet. Both jets feature 115 cubic feet of internal baggage space. 

Performance

One of the first business jets designed with a super-critical wing, the Challenger 604 also improves upon the previous jets in the Challenger line with greater fuel capacity. Both the 604 and 605 feature two General Electric CF-34-3B engines, each producing 8,729 lbs of thrust, as well as the same wing design—but the 605 boasts a payload of 5,015 lbs compared to the 604’s 4,815 lbs, and features better fuel efficiency and weight distribution.  

The Challenger 604 uses 289 gallons of fuel per hour to the 605’s 258. Both feature a maximum takeoff weight of 48,200 lbs., and the Challenger 605 has a slightly longer range at 4,047 nautical miles to the 604’s 4,024 nautical miles. Both feature a normal cruise airspeed of 459 mph and a long-range cruise airspeed of 425 mph.
